SSMU-Banner-Web-Monday-Legislative-Council

When: 6:00 – 9:00
Where: Lev Bukhman Room
What: Legislative Council

The Legislative Council is SSMU’s legislative arm, and is made up of 37 voting members: seven executives plus thirty councillors (who are representatives of different constituencies such as faculties or Athletics). All major decisions go through Council. There are also a number of SSMU committees that meet and that present their updates at Council.

Council meets every other Thursday evening in the Lev Bukhman Room on the second floor of the Shatner Building. All Council documents of 2016-2017 are accessible on the SSMU website, or you can catch up on all the happenings in one of the many student newspapers on campus.

Students are more than welcome to sit in on meetings and may be granted speaking rights by their representative Councillor, if desired. How much SSMU will accomplish in your year depends on YOU.

SLASummit

When: March 16-19
Where: Leacock 219

What could you accomplish for 30 people with just $5,000? Find out at SLASummit 2017! SLASummit is a student-run conference and case competition challenging participants to rethink international development. Over four days in March, students from across disciplines converge on Montreal to address social issues in Latin America. With interdisciplinary teams and leading mentors, participants are able to create comprehensive, community-based projects. The leading team receives the $5,000 and the air miles to fly to the community, where they work with our partner NGO and community members to adapt the project to conditions on the ground.

Early bird registration opened Saturday November 19. To learn more about SLASummit, you can find us on social media or at slasummit.ca. To join in the conversation, come to our information session, Thursday November 24 at 6:00 in Leacock 219.
