What are mini courses?

Mini Courses are fun, inexpensive, extracurricular classes offered by the Students’ Society of McGill University on evenings or weekends throughout the school year for students and non-students alike. We offer a wide variety of courses, including languages, dance, fitness, and cooking classes. For a complete list of our classes and workshops, see COURSES.

Our qualified instructors have been carefully selected, and we put a great deal of importance on feedback from Mini Courses participants to ensure the best learning experience possible. While courses may change from semester to semester, there is always something for everyone!

Where are they held?

The majority of our classes are conveniently located in the SSMU (Shatner) building, and the rest are held in nearby locations around the McGill campus.

SSMU building: 3480 rue McTavish, postal code H3A 1Y2

B-29/B-30: basement floor

Ballroom/302/Midnight Kitchen: 3rd floor

Lev Bukhman: 2nd floor

Ecole des Maîtres: 1620 Sherbrooke St W., postal code H3H 1C9

How do I register?

One of two ways: online or in-person. For our registration schedule, please see our HOME page.

1.) Payment for online registration can be made with a CREDIT CARD ONLY. When registering online, please make sure you fill out all of your information (especially email address) correctly!

2.) Payment for in-person registration can be made with CASH ONLY. If you are a McGill student, please remember to bring your McGill ID to the in-person registration, or you will be charged the non-McGill student price, which includes an additional $5 fee. There will be a late fee of $5 for our late in-person registrations.

Refund Policy

There is NO REFUND under any circumstances with the exception of the entire course being cancelled. We cannot do “per class” refunds, ie we cannot refund you if you miss a particular class for any reason.

When a course is cancelled, you will be alerted of the cancellation with an email. You will be given the options of:

1) switching into a class that is running in the current semester

2) taking a credit for the course you have registered for in the upcoming semester

3) obtaining a full refund

If we do not hear from you, we will automatically give you a credit for the same course in the next semester. This credit is non-transferrable and non-refundable.

If you would like to receive a full refund, please reply to the email and request the refund within 1 month after the end of registration. We reserve the right to not issue refunds for requests sent after this period.

If you registered online, your refund will be directly issued to your credit card or Paypal account. If you registered in-person, there will be three (3) refund sessions taken place in the SSMU office. If you do not attend the sessions, you will automatically be given a credit for the next semester. We reserve the right to not issue in-person cash refunds after the third session.

Course credits for future semesters will only be given to registrants whose courses were cancelled.
