About Sustainability at SSMU

The SSMU has on staff a full-time Sustainability Coordinator as well as student Environment Commissioners, a Green Events Coordinator, and a Green Building Coordinator. We also employ students throughout different portfolios to engage in research projects pertaining to current environmental issues. The Environment Commissioners chair SSMU’s Environment Committee and represent downtown undergraduates on McGill’s Senate Subcommittee on the environment. The Environment Committee coordinates between the Student Society and McGill students interested in building an environmentally sustainable campus.

The Environment Commissioners can provide support to campus sustainability efforts in a number of ways, including taking up the concerns of walk-in students, staff, and faculty; coalition-building between student environmentalist groups, and helping promote their work to the campus community; and proactively creating new spaces and opportunities for sustainability activism to flourish within and without SSMU.

EnviroComm works with any and all environmental groups on campus including, but not limited to, Gorilla Composting, Sustainability Network, Greening McGill, The Flat, Organic Campus, McGill Environment Students’ Society, Farmers Market at McGill, Environmental Residence Council, Campus Crops, The Plate Club and many more.

If you have questions, concerns, or you want to get involved, please email the Environment Commissioners at environment@ssmu.mcgill.ca.  You can also contact the Sustainability Coordinator at sustainability.coord@ssmu.mcgill.ca. Please also take the time to visit our website.
