The Symphonic Band Club was formed in 2008 by two students, Adrian Cosstick and Cat Zheng. We play medium difficulty band pieces and students are encouraged to set up their own small ensembles. Past repertoire has included everything from World of Warcraft to Wagner. We are a wind band open to all McGill students who play traditional band instruments, no auditions required!
The group you see in the picture above were the band members performing at our first concert ever, in the Fall of 2008. Lovingly referred to as The Band Club, the group has grown steadily from just over 20 students to an ensemble of around 65 members with a varied instrumentation.
The majority of the band comes from faculties outside music. We rehearse once a week and have sectionals throughout the semester, with the goal of providing and fun and inclusive environment for students with varying backgrounds in music, as well as an outlet for our conductors and musicians to gain some valuable non-credit field experience. Since The Band also provides social opportunities for our members, we regularly organize outings and other events throughout the year.
