Every undergraduate student is represented by a Senator based on their faculty affiliation. The Senators main role is to represent undergraduate students at the McGill Senate. Senators can relay their constituents’ concern to the McGill Senate, McGill Admin, the Faculty Association, or University-level committees.
To send an email to all Senators, direct your message to email@example.com. Note that since the SSMU President and VP University Affairs are also senators, emails sent to this address will also reach them.

Hey everyone! I’m one of your Arts Senators this year and am a fourth year student studying International Development and Political Science. This year I will be sitting on the Committee on Student Services (CSS) and the Subcommittee on Student Affairs Policy (SSAP) so if you have any questions in relation to student services or student affairs, or anything to do with your student rights feel free to contact me. Furthermore, I am here to represent your interests, the interests of the Arts Undergraduate Society, and am excited to make your voices heard on the highest academic governing body of McGill!
Charles Keita | Arts Senator
Hello all, I’m a third year student studying Economics and Political Science. This year I will be sitting on the Committee on Enrolment and Student Affairs (CESA) and the Subcommittee on Racialized and Ethnic Person (SCREP). My position would not exist without the help of my constituents and thus you should all feel free to contact me through email, setting up a meeting, or using whatever means of communication you are most comfortable with. When I take off my Senator hat, I am the VP Finance for the Black Students Network on campus and a Student Life Ambassador for the CL&E office. I look forward to hearing from you!
Guy Ettlin | Arts and Sciences Senator
I’m a third year student studying both in the Department of Economics and Psychology. Before serving on Senate, I have sat on the Bachelor of Arts and Science Integrative Council for two years as VP Internal and VP First Year Affairs. I am very passionate about the continuous evolvement and innovation of the Arts and Science Interfaculty as well as McGill as a whole. Further interests and passions include theatre, especially our companies at McGill, as well as environmental issues, international relations and social policy.
Amanda Montaque | Education Senator
Greetings! I am your Education Senator this year. I am a third year student studying to be a Secondary English and History teacher. This will be my first year serving on the SSMU and I look forward to learning more about McGill through this position. I like to try new things and challenge myself from year to year. I see this senatorship as a new challenge to broaden my communications with both staff, administration, and most importantly students. I have many interests including digital art and wellness. As I am an Education student, I will be serving on the Undergraduate Skills Program Advisory Board. I will be focusing on training and preparatory services available to teachers in training.
Alexander Dow | Engineering Senator
Bienvenue! Your Engineering Senator ici, I’m entering my fourth year majoring in Civil Engineering with a minor in Construction Engineering and Management; raised in Toronto, originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. My previous involvement with the Engineering Undergraduate Society spans all realms of student life from event organization and logistics, to financial audits, community outreach, and commercial operations. In addition to sitting on SSPN and the Academic Policy Committee, I’m involved with all aspects of McGill’s Laboratories and Health and Safety Regulations. My goals this year involve a broad repair of relations between the engineering community and SSMU, and improving student’s access to laboratory spaces on McGill Campus.
Shannon Snow | Law Senator
I am your dandy Law Senator! The Law Senator is an important role to connect law students with the rest of campus, from whom we tend to isolate. While sitting during my second year at McGill, I will participate in committees on indigenous relations, mental health and student rights. Outside of these responsibilities, making movements toward improved access to STI testing on campus, and instituting 1:1 trash-to-recycling bins campus-wide are my aspirations! In my other life, I am the Executive Co-Director of Healthy Legal Minds, a Research Assistant, and an enthused actor! I come from St. John’s, NL, am a member of NunatuKavut, and I look forward to this year’s progress!
Alexandre Perron | Management Senator
Hey! My name is Alex and I’m the Management Senator. I am currently pursuing my major in Information Systems with a minor in Computer Science and a concentration in Finance. Beyond the McGill Senate, I am sitting on the Advisory Committee for the Selection of a Vice-Principal (Finance & Administration), as well as the Committee on Enrolment and Student Affairs (CESA). As student representative, I will ensure that your voice is properly heard since I believe that each and every student on campus can create an impact.
Joshua Chin | Medicine Senator
Hiya everyone! I’m the Nursing and Medicine Senator, currently in my fourth and final year of my medical studies. I’ve previously been involved with the MSS (Medical Students’ Society) and the SSMU in various capacities. This academic year, I am sitting on the Academic Policy Committee (APC) and on the Advisory Committee for the Selection of a Vice-Principal (Research & Innovation). I also have a seat at the SSMU Legislative Council as a Senate Caucus Representative. One of my goals for this year is to engage with various faculty-level student associations, including the MSS, NUS (Nursing Students’ Society), POTUS (Physical and Occupational Therapy Undergraduate Society), DSS (Dental Students’ Society) and SWSA (Social Work Student Association) and ensure their voices are heard on university-wide initiatives and projects.
Mitchel Russo | Music Senator
I’m in my third year of the concurrent Music Education degree studying Saxophone and minoring in Economics. I am delighted to sit on Senate this year as well as three of its subcommittees dealing with the topics of Teaching and Learning, Equity as well as Undergraduate Student Advising. One of my goals for this year is to ensure your ideas, thoughts and opinions are heard so send me an email and get in touch! I’m always interested to hear what you have to say on academic issues that matter to you.
Sean Taylor | Science Senator
Hello! I’m your friendly neighborhood Science Senator and a U3 student in Microbiology and Immunology. I also volunteer as a responder with M-SERT and work as a barback at Gerts so make sure to drop by sometime! Having represented Science students last year on the legislative council of SSMU and now sitting as a Senator, I am extremely eager to represent the opinions and thoughts of the wider student body to the administration and faculty this year. This year I’ll be working through committees on the topics of sustainable lab practices, teaching spaces on campus, enrolment, and student affairs, along with other pertinent and important issues on campus. If you have any concerns or are simply interested in meeting up to talk about McGill and its politics, shoot me an email!
