Walksafe? What’s that?
Walksafe is a volunteer SSMU service that provides free night-time accompaniment for those who are feel uncomfortable, or who are unable to walk home alone. Our service is available to anyone in Montreal, and we will walk to and from any destination on the island.
Well when can I call you?
Good question. You can call us at anytime during our operating hours, which are 9pm to 12am on Sunday thru Thursday nights, and 9pm to 3am on Friday and Saturday nights.
Sounds awesome! How can I get a hold of you?
You can call us during our operating hours at 514-398-2498, or you can send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Will you take the metro with me?
Yes. We are able to accompany you on the metro, or in a taxi if you choose to take one.
How do I use Walksafe?
Easy. Just give us a call at 514-398-2498. We will ask you where you are, and where you want to go. At that time, if a team is available, we will dispatch them and give you an estimated time of arrival. If all of our teams are busy, we can take your phone number and call you back as soon as a team becomes available. At Walksafe, we do everything we can to make sure that each two-person team has at least one female member. Our volunteers can be identified by their bright red jackets, with our name and phone number printed on the back.
What about special events, like frosh and 4floors?
These events are when Walksafe has its highest level of service! During campus events, we work with SSMU security, Drivesafe and M-SERT to provide comprehensive safety services to students. If you represent a campus group and are planning an event, feel free to let us know about it and we will try to provide volunteer coverage.
