Volunteering for McGill Walksafe is easy, and consists of three simple steps: Signing up, a short interview and Walksafe training.
1. Signing Up
Walksafe always maintains a table at Activities Night, so if you're interested in volunteering, just drop by and leave your name, phone number and email address (please print legibly!). If you can't make Activities Night, or if you decide to volunteer later in the year, just email us at executive@walksafe.ca
2. Interview
All Walksafe volunteers must participate in a short interview with a Walksafe executives. The purpose of the interview is to assess the volunteer's ability to maintain a supportive, accepting demeanour while on duty.
3. Training
All volunteers must be trained. Ask the executive at the interview the best time to be trained. Topics covered include Walksafe's internal regulations, radio protocols, active listening, crisis training and sensitivity to certain issues.
After that volunteers are signed up for their first shift.
